It was a really easy read but didn’t really have much plot/story line and was quite predictable。 I did enjoy reading it, however, and I think the depth of each character’s history was great。

I hate giving negative reviews of books, mainly because I know how much time and effort goes into them and I could never begin to write one myself,  but I just did not enjoy this book。 It's based around 3 housemates, Ellen, Jack and Alexa and Alexa's date from the night before (Ben), who all get locked in their attic。 The blurb made it seem like there is something mysterious about Ben and so I (wrongly) assumed it might be a cross between a rom com and a thriller (Spoiler: it's not mysterious or I hate giving negative reviews of books, mainly because I know how much time and effort goes into them and I could never begin to write one myself,  but I just did not enjoy this book。 It's based around 3 housemates, Ellen, Jack and Alexa and Alexa's date from the night before (Ben), who all get locked in their attic。 The blurb made it seem like there is something mysterious about Ben and so I (wrongly) assumed it might be a cross between a rom com and a thriller (Spoiler: it's not mysterious or exciting)。 Now I love a rom com so I wouldn't have been too disappointed if that's what I had got, but I just struggled to see the point of the book。。。 what was the storyline? The characters were also strange to me, maybe it's because I haven't lived in a house share with people I didn't know before moving in but there were a lot of facial expressions and looks between characters that didn't make sense。 Did they fancy each other? Were they jealous? Annoyed? And why? The explanation of these facial expressions never arose and I struggled to understand why they were mentioned at all。All in all this book really confused me。 。。。more

A kitchen flooded with water。 Four people locked in an attic。 Sounds intriguing。 And it was an enjoyable enough read。 But when the whole plot is based on what happens between the characters locked in, it needs to be something special。 And sadly, I felt it fell short。 I didn't laugh out loud once。 I didn't feel any deep connection to any of the characters and didn't really care if they got out or not。 A good idea。 But executed not so well。 A kitchen flooded with water。 Four people locked in an attic。 Sounds intriguing。 And it was an enjoyable enough read。 But when the whole plot is based on what happens between the characters locked in, it needs to be something special。 And sadly, I felt it fell short。 I didn't laugh out loud once。 I didn't feel any deep connection to any of the characters and didn't really care if they got out or not。 A good idea。 But executed not so well。 。。。more

A fun, easy read about three housemates who one disastrous Sunday morning find themselves stuck in the attic whilst their kitchen floods beneath them。 Couple with that, they are joined by Ben, the owner of the MSN handle whom Ellen believes ghosted her years earlier。 A pleasant read but not a laugh out louder for me I'm afraid。 A fun, easy read about three housemates who one disastrous Sunday morning find themselves stuck in the attic whilst their kitchen floods beneath them。 Couple with that, they are joined by Ben, the owner of the MSN handle whom Ellen believes ghosted her years earlier。 A pleasant read but not a laugh out louder for me I'm afraid。 。。。more

I'm actually really sad that I didn't enjoy this more。Don't get me wrong there was definitely some funny moments and I did like the 'going viral' part of the plot but other than that, there didn't really feel like there was any plot。The scandal that was supposed to cause tension just didn't feel dramatic at all。 In fact, if it was in real life you'd probably all just laugh it off as a silly coincidence。 The characters all felt a little one dimensional and I thought the plot twist at the end was I'm actually really sad that I didn't enjoy this more。Don't get me wrong there was definitely some funny moments and I did like the 'going viral' part of the plot but other than that, there didn't really feel like there was any plot。The scandal that was supposed to cause tension just didn't feel dramatic at all。 In fact, if it was in real life you'd probably all just laugh it off as a silly coincidence。 The characters all felt a little one dimensional and I thought the plot twist at the end was also pretty obvious。This is a lighthearted read but unfortunately, this one wasn't for me。Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin for providing me with a copy to read。 。。。more

Who’d have thought it was possible to compile an entire book based around a group of friends being stuck in an attic room but that’s exactly what has been done here。 Good story, inventive and well worth whiling away an afternoon with。

This just wasn't what I thought it was going to be。 Avertised as a rom-com really got me excited with such a fun premise but I really didn't feel anything for the characters, they were all quite childish。 I didn't get any romance vibes。 Really disappointed This just wasn't what I thought it was going to be。 Avertised as a rom-com really got me excited with such a fun premise but I really didn't feel anything for the characters, they were all quite childish。 I didn't get any romance vibes。 Really disappointed 。。。more

Nice easy, chilled read, but was a bit disappointed with the ending, felt it had good potential to have gone down a different route, but was an enjoyable read :)

When housemates Ellen, Jack and Alexa get stuck in their attic while their house is flooding downstairs, they have several problems to try and overcome - including the awkwardness of also being stuck with Alexa's fling from the night before Ben。 Whom Ellen is convinced she knows from somewhere。This book is definitely one for anyone who can describe themselves as a millennial。 Those who grew up in the 90s and everything they included from teen discos, to late nights on MSN Messenger。 Not to menti When housemates Ellen, Jack and Alexa get stuck in their attic while their house is flooding downstairs, they have several problems to try and overcome - including the awkwardness of also being stuck with Alexa's fling from the night before Ben。 Whom Ellen is convinced she knows from somewhere。This book is definitely one for anyone who can describe themselves as a millennial。 Those who grew up in the 90s and everything they included from teen discos, to late nights on MSN Messenger。 Not to mention growing up to increasing rent prices, and being happy with anywhere you end up even if it means dealing with a terrible landlord。The Lock In was laugh out loud funny with a perfect blend of characters and personalities that when all stuck in one place for hours brought out the worst and best in each other。 I wasn't sure going in how engaged I would be with this entire book, and I hoped the plot line of being stuck in this one room wouldn't get boring, fast, like I feared but the story was well-paced and engaging enough I never stopped to feel anything but thoroughly entertained。I do feel like maybe we didn't get everything from the characters the way I would have liked, and almost skimmed the surface of who they all were。 I would have loved to have spent more time with Jack and learned more about him and his background, but what we did get with him in this book, I enjoyed。 I would love Polly Lockhurst to included these characters in other books as a fun Easter Egg - it would be nice to see them pop up on occasion and see how they're doing。 。。。more

When I read the synopsis of this book I was expecting drama and old flames and quarrels。 However what I got was quite different。 Instead this was about Ellen and her best friend Alexa who goes on a date with a guy called Ben who she just so happened to 'talk to' in school。 My favourite character by far was Jack and I am glad that this book was written in multiple POV so that Jack got his own chapters and we got to see his thoughts on the whole thing。 I loved the twitter chain that he did and I a When I read the synopsis of this book I was expecting drama and old flames and quarrels。 However what I got was quite different。 Instead this was about Ellen and her best friend Alexa who goes on a date with a guy called Ben who she just so happened to 'talk to' in school。 My favourite character by far was Jack and I am glad that this book was written in multiple POV so that Jack got his own chapters and we got to see his thoughts on the whole thing。 I loved the twitter chain that he did and I also love how he reacted with everyone in the loft。 There were parts of this story that got a little boring and did drag for me a little。 However all in all this was a fun, quick and entertaining read。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was such a lovely light read and very funny! I couldn’t imagine being in this situation, I would definitely have been panicking more if I was locked in an attic。The story that unfolds during this lock in is so unbelievably shocking and quite awkward。 I felt so sorry for each individual for different reasons。 I’m so happy that everything turned out ok in the end。 I definitely recommend this read if you are looking for something lighthearted

Really not worth the read。 Genuinely nothing happens in the book。

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review。An enjoyable comedy, that took me a bit down memory lane, when MSN was still a thing。Helping me relate with the story and the。 characters is also the setting。 Ah! This…was not what I expected。 I’m just completely “meh” by this and that makes me sad 😞Some bits were really fun and entertaining and massively up my street and honestly I adored those! The characters were really interesting and clearly the combination of the personalities were designed to bounced off each other really well。 There is banter and humour vs shy and awkwardness - perfection on paper, right? But there are just bits that just let me down…its like a catch 22 situation 😂I dunno。。read it f This…was not what I expected。 I’m just completely “meh” by this and that makes me sad 😞Some bits were really fun and entertaining and massively up my street and honestly I adored those! The characters were really interesting and clearly the combination of the personalities were designed to bounced off each other really well。 There is banter and humour vs shy and awkwardness - perfection on paper, right? But there are just bits that just let me down…its like a catch 22 situation 😂I dunno。。read it for yourselves and let me know but I was underwhelmed 💔 。。。more

A light hearted read about 3 housemates plus one new boyfriend all accidentally getting locked in the attic while the kitchen is flooding! Add to the mix that one of them realises she holds a grudge from teenagehood against one of the others and you get the idea。 This was an enjoyable read, which isn’t deep or meaningful, but fun and made me laugh。

My first book by this author。 The story of 3 people sharing a house, who get locked in their attic with one person's boyfriend。 A good story with interesting stories of them all。 I did find the section on audio of the messenger messages a little annoying, with the messenger names keep being read out, but other than that, very enjoyable。 My first book by this author。 The story of 3 people sharing a house, who get locked in their attic with one person's boyfriend。 A good story with interesting stories of them all。 I did find the section on audio of the messenger messages a little annoying, with the messenger names keep being read out, but other than that, very enjoyable。 。。。more

This was cute, not riveting, but a fun easy read with sweet characters (especially Jack who I adored)。 Wouldn't rush to read it again as it's a cute little rom com rather than a twisty thriller, but still, nice summer read when you don't want anything too taxing。 This was cute, not riveting, but a fun easy read with sweet characters (especially Jack who I adored)。 Wouldn't rush to read it again as it's a cute little rom com rather than a twisty thriller, but still, nice summer read when you don't want anything too taxing。 。。。more

Funny and cringey at the same time。 Typical rom com type book, predictable at times but at others had you laughing out loud。 It was the good light read I needed。

I loved this book and all of its characters。 It was funny, relatable and very interesting。 There was not one part of the book I didn't enjoy。 The romance in the book was subtle but still very sweet but also very realistic。 I will have to keep an eye out for any more books written be Phoebe Luckhurst!
